Meet chaired on fixing MSP of green tea leaves in Gaurisagar

GAURISAGAR: With a view to provide much needed respite to the small tea growers of the district from getting lesser price for their green tea leaves, Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua on Friday chaired a meeting among owners of bought-leaf factories, representatives of All Assam Small Tea Growers' Association and officials of the Labour department. The Deputy Commissioner in the meeting held at the conference hall of his office discussed at length the minimum support price (MSP) of raw tea leaves with the officials of bought-leaf factories and representatives of All Assam Small Tea Growers' Association.

After much deliberation in the meeting, it was unanimously decided that the minimum support price (MSP) of raw tea leaves of 40-44 per cent quality should be fixed at Rs 27 per kilogram. The Deputy Commissioner said this price will remain in force until further notice. He also stated that there should not be any fluctuation of the MSP in the district and all concerned should strictly adhere to it.
He advocated that the fixation of minimum support price (MSP) of raw tea leaves would give a boost to the tea industry in the district and would place both the sellers and buyers in a win-win situation. The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jabed Arman and Assistant Commissioner Samujjal Borah.
